Top 5 Ways to Be Your Own Boss

We all want to be a millionaire, living a life of luxury. Or at the very least not have to get up so early in the morning. I recently looked into ways I could stop working for other people in order to choose what time I got up and when I worked. Here are the top 5 ways I found to do this. Some of them are tougher than others.

• Property – The idea of owning a lot of property that makes money almost on its own is very appealing. You might need some involvement, but if you’re making enough profit you could pay managers to handle all the problems for you. It’s difficult to get started though, you have to be able to buy the property in the first place. Buy to let loans are available, but in this economy banks are being notoriously stingy.

• Forex trading – set yourself up as a currency trader. Buy currency! Sell currency! Make profit! You do need to know what you’re doing for this, and at first the chances of you making money are slim. And at some point you’re bound to make a big loss. But get it right and build up a solid client base and you could make a lot of money, from your sofa if you like. There are a lot of online tools to help you – the basics you need include an FX converter tool, but there are also a lot of trading platforms and software packages that can help you build a strategy.

• Become an odd job person – Unlikely to make you a millionaire, but it will give you more freedom than a 9 to 5. Things like dog walking, housesitting, handyman jobs can all fit around your schedule. If your hope is to be able to fit work around school runs rather than retire forever, this is a good option.

• Use any other skill you have – There are lots of websites around on which people post freelance jobs that you can offer to do. From building websites to writing copy to making spreadsheets to taking messages, if you an internet connection there are loads of jobs you can do. It might not be regular work, but you can do it on your sofa, in a coffee shop or in the middle of the night if that’s when you work best.
